Here's the deal. I was off traveling around Great Britain and around the rest of Europe for about four and a half months.
I would consider myself a pretty good traveler: I don't wear American flags or gaudy things, I stay quiet and respectful
in other countries, etc... And the people I travel with were about the same way. The thing is, the other people we saw traveling,
most of the time they were the loudest people in the place. And by "other people we saw traveling" I mean other
Europeans.
Here's an example. My brother Neil and I were at the Grand Canal in Venice. We were talking and these three British
people sit down next to us. We got to talking and then one dude started to tell these jokes from some TV show and another
British dude walked around with a hat and begged for money from people walking past and people just sitting next to us. They
were just ridiculous and embarrassing...and people say Americans are ugly tourists?
Now, I'm not saying that America ROCKS! and Europe STINKS! but come on, be fair. Some people, when they are traveling,
no matter what country they are from, will be disrespectful and obnoxious in public and tarnish the reputation for that country.
I don't care if they are from Texas, USA or York, England or Nice, France...some people will make fools of themselves. So
just write the person off, not the country.
Oh, and while I'm on the subject of other countries and stuff, I did learn at least one thing I was proud of back in the
USA: we wrote down our Constitution. You might want to look into that England, just a suggestion.
