Being in school and all, I don't have tons of time to read. But when I do read, I read books by Chuck Palahniuk. With satire and dark humor, Chuck Palahniuk forces you to think as you read. If you haven't ever heard of Chuck Palahniuk, look into his novels. You will thank me.

List of novels by Chuck Palahniuk:

Fight Club: His first novel. This was made into a film staring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. The novel is about a frustrated corporate drone itching for a change. He then meets Tyler Durden, and his life is never the same.

Survivor: This book deals with fame and televangelists. Tender Branson is a member of the Creedish, a cult like group in Pennsylvania, who is thrown into the spotlight when he becomes the last surviving Creedish.

Choke: Victor Mancini is a Medical School dropout who now works at a colonial theme park. In order to pay for his mother's medical bills, he pretends to choke in upscale restaurants and then be "saved" by a generous patron who in turn will send him checks to support him. Once you begin Choke, you will not be able to put it down.

Invisible Monsters: Probably my favorite of Chuck's fine novels. Written in the same style as fashion magazines, jumping around from point to point in time, the novel follows a former fashion model whose life is changed forever when she was involved in an "accident" that leaves her horribly disfigured. Teaming up with Brandy Alexander, she travels across the country on a journey discovering who people really are and what a life really is all about. Highly enjoyable on many levels. The only word I can think of to describe it is brilliant.

Lullaby: His most recent novel. I just finished it. Here's the just of it: a newspaper reporter, doing a report on SIDs, finds a common thread in each case, a copy of "Poems and Rhymes Around the World." Realizing that one poem can kill people if spoken in their direction, he decides to destroy all copies of the "culling song." A great ending (as usual with Chuck's books) and quite a well written novel. I suggest everyone read it.

Chuck Palahniuk Quotation for the Time Being:

"The TelePrompTer tells me:  I was sexually abused. Sexual abuse was commonplace among the creeish cult members. Incest was an everyday part of family life. So was sex with all sorts of animals. Satan worship was popular. The Creedish sacraificed children to Satan all the time, but not before abusing them like crazy. Then the Creedish curch elders killed them. Drank their blood. These were kids I sat next to in school everyday. The hcurch elders ate them. When there was a full moon, church elders danced neaked wearing just the skins of the dead Creedish children. Yeah, I say, it was all really, really stressful." -- From Survivor
